As a documentary photographer, I enjoy the historical value that the genre brings to the viewer. Through the process of being a documentarian and a photojournalist, I have found that my interest is in getting closer to the people that I photograph, wanting to know more about them; and thus letting my audience more about them.

Over the last couple of years, I have been exploring portraiture photography. Not completely abandoning my documentarian roots, I still find value in allowing the “subject” to be who they are, rather than have them model what I want them to be. My ongoing focus has been on photographing artists of the African Diaspora across genres from painters to poets. The goal of my work is to engage the viewer in an intimate way to give them a more personal point of view.
