I am a scholar of new media guided by Black feminist thought. I explore ways to make public-facing new media projects less harmful and more inclusive for those that consume and interact with them. My research illuminates the importance of fine art, and formal and informal archives to help designers to make more complete stories for cultural productions.

I created Black Feminist Technopractice, an interdisciplinary digital humanities framework for interactive narratives that deploys what we know as participatory design and speculative design, combined with art and archival practices while leveraging Black technoculture, which examines how Black people make meaning in digital spaces

I focus on fostering meaningful interactions between creators of digital environments and users, exploring ways to make public-facing digital media productions less harmful and more inclusive for those that interact with them. I received my doctorate Georgia Tech in Digital Media.

Currently, I am the Curator of Exhibitions at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art in Atlanta, GA. I work towards increasing engagement and educational initiatives at the museum while fostering collaborations between faculty and staff at Spelman and the Atlanta University Center. Ming Smith: Feeling the Future is on view until Dec 7, 2024.

*Yes I know, legally my name is spelled Brandy (with a y) but I prefer Brandi (with an i), I’ll answer to both.
